Project Case Study

Installation of Wonderwall CIS Panels for MTR Crossrail Network January 2018-Present Day

Summary

Since the beginning of 2018, Aspect Installations have been committed to installing a range of wall mounted screens across the Crossrail network on behalf of Worldline Digital Self Service Group. These are designed to provide concise train departure information for rail users.

Background

The ‘Wonderwall’ project was Worldline’s first foray into a purely digitized Customer Information Service. MTR Crossrail had already worked with Worldline who supplied them the Ticket Vending Machines across their network and now committed to the installation of this new product in their ticket halls.

For Worldline, installation of this type was new territory. Ranging between 42” (48kg) and 55” (75kg) wall mounted panels, the screens are weighty pieces of hardware designed specifically for Rail and Transport environments. As such, Aspect were brought in to help find the best delivery and installation solution.

  1. Drill holes in walls, clean holes in walls, deposit resin in hole, twist anchor rod into hole (10mm protruding), and allow resin to cure
  2. Panel-type specific Wall Mounting Plate is fixed by nuts and washers anchor rods
  3. Panel is split into its two parts, rear section (has mounting holes) and front section (houses heavy LCD)
  4. Panel rear section is fixed by nuts and washers to Wall Mounting Plate’s studs
  5. Fix two small bracing brackets to studs on Wall Mounting Plate – ensure these clinch the hinge edge of the rear section
  6. Panel front section is then re-attached to rear section and wiring looms re-connected and made secure
  7. Panel front section is lowered shut over rear section, and latches on bottom face are levered closed
  8. Surround is slid over the panel and then secured by screws to the sides of the wall mounting plate.

Successful delivery, installation and commissioning

To date, Aspect have delivered, installed and assisted with commissioning every Wonderwall unit at each MTR station on the Elizabeth line. As a result, we are Worldline’s preferred service provider for hardware maintenance calls.

Looking forward

In December 2020, Aspect were asked to provide a quote to upgrade the software to Windows 10 in each unit on the MTR network. Our familiarity and knowledge of the product stands us in good stead to carry out the work, and we look forward to being part of that project.
