Aspect Installations - A Brief History

Aspect Installations began as a small family-run venture in 2002, initially contracting for Guildford-based Shere Limited to install ticket vending machines across the National Rail Network. Under the meticulous leadership of Gary Hicks, who continues to oversee operations, the company recruited experienced employees to manage the workload. Their responsibilities included transporting machines to designated locations and diligently installing them at train stations nationwide.

For the next decade, Gary and his team became Shere’s primary installation operatives, earning a reputation for being flexible, hardworking, and industrious. This reputation led to further installation work for various Train Operating Companies, including Virgin Trains (now Avanti), Great Western Railway, Southern Railway, Docklands Light Railway, and Arriva Trains Wales (now Transport for Wales). Aspect Installations’ dedication to quality and reliability has solidified its standing as a trusted partner in the rail industry.

Broadening Our Horizons

With the success of our installation work, Aspect Installations sought to diversify our field services. Leveraging our in-depth understanding of Shere-manufactured ticket vending machines, we expanded our services to include on-site upgrades and retro-fits. As the demand for IT upgrades grew, we focused on recruiting engineers with both technical expertise and experience working in the busy rail environment.

This strategic recruitment included former field-servicing engineers, allowing us to take on broader projects encompassing both hardware and software upgrades, in addition to our ongoing installation work. This move has greatly benefited the company, as Aspect Installations now boasts a diverse workforce with a variety of skill sets and extensive field experience. Our team’s combined expertise ensures we continue to deliver exceptional service across all our projects.

Hospitality & Retail

 

Having established ourselves with our work on the National Rail Network, Aspect Installations has expanded our services to include a variety of suppliers in this sector. Our successful partnership with Shere Ltd paved the way for continued collaboration with Atos UK and Worldline UK. More recently, we have been employed by Scheidt & Bachmann UK for TVM installations and Blackbox Digital Signage Solutions for commissioning Customer Information Screens.

 

Beyond the transport sector, Aspect Installations has steadily incorporated work in the retail and hospitality sectors. We have provided installation and upgrade services, both hardware and software, for Premier Inn, Travelodge, and Genting hotels. In the retail sector, our projects include work for Cineworld, Kwik-Fit, and Adidas. Our diverse expertise and commitment to excellence allow us to deliver high-quality solutions across multiple industries.

Aspect Installations: 2023-24

Over the past 12 months, Aspect Installations has maintained a strong foothold within the Rail framework, embarking on Windows 10 upgrades across the DLR network and performing a tech refresh of ticket office point of sale systems on the GTR network. Our continued commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and user experience in the transport sector remains a cornerstone of our business.

 

Keen to forge relationships with new partners, we have also carried out subcontractual work for Evoke Creative, installing a wide variety of kiosks, customer information screens, and digital signage screens at UK theme parks such as Legoland, Chessington, and Alton Towers, as well as in supermarkets and fitness centers. This collaboration has allowed us to expand our expertise and deliver high-quality installation services across diverse environments.

Additionally, we have assisted in subcontractual work for Cennox, contributing to the upgrade of network infrastructure at Greggs bakeries across the southern region of the UK. This project has further diversified our portfolio and demonstrated our capability in handling complex, large-scale upgrades in the retail sector.
